Control Rooms — common questions
What's the difference between a monitoring room and a mission-critical control room?
A monitoring room watches something — a building, a network, a security perimeter. Downtime is inconvenient but tolerable. A mission-critical control room runs something — a power grid, an air traffic sector, a refinery. Operator actions directly cause physical outcomes, and downtime has safety, financial, or regulatory consequences. The hardware overlaps, but mission-critical builds add full N+1 redundancy on processors, power, and network, plus 24/7 remote monitoring, and AMC tiers with hard SLAs (typically 1-hour onsite response).
Do we have to choose between LED and LCD video walls?
Not necessarily. LED video walls give a fully seamless canvas with no bezels and are increasingly cost-competitive at sizes above 4 meters wide. LCD video walls with 0.88mm bezels remain a strong choice when budget is the primary constraint, viewing distance is over 3 meters (where the bezels disappear), and floor space is tight. We typically recommend LED for new mission-critical builds and LCD for monitoring tiers or budget-constrained projects. We can model both options in your proposal.
Can you integrate with our existing SCADA or VMS platform?
Yes. We integrate with the major industrial control platforms and video management systems used in the Kingdom — both via direct manufacturer APIs and via standard protocols (OPC, BACnet, ONVIF). The integration scope is defined in the project's statement of work and tested against your live systems during commissioning, not just on a demo bench.
What does an N+1 redundant control room actually cost vs a single-path build?
A fully N+1 redundant build typically adds 18 to 35 percent over a single-path equivalent — duplicated processors, dual power feeds, dual network paths, hot-spare modules, and the design engineering to make automatic failover seamless. The premium is justified for genuinely mission-critical environments where downtime cost exceeds the redundancy capex within months. For monitoring tiers, single-path is usually the right answer. We model both options in the proposal.
What's the standard timeline for a mid-sized control room project?
Site survey to handover for a mid-sized operations control room (10 to 20 operators, 2 to 4 meter video wall): typically 14 to 20 weeks. Mission-critical builds with full N+1 redundancy and SCADA/VMS integration: 18 to 26 weeks. The drivers are equipment lead time (especially for large LED walls and processors), structural and HVAC modifications, and integration testing against your existing operational systems. Every proposal includes a fixed milestone schedule tied to acceptance criteria.
